Dávid Koronczi is a graphic designer, visual artist, and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, where he assists Martin Piaček in running the vvv Studio at the Department of Intermedia. In his work, Dávid explores the intersection of food production and consumption practices with artistic strategies. In 2021, he initiated the performative gastro-speculative project BRUCHOVRAVY. He has participated in numerous exhibitions both at home and abroad, and in July 2024, took part in the GASTROFAZA art symposium, focused on food in contemporary art, organized by MeetFactory. Currently, he and his partner Martina Szabóová run a small family farm in Ratka, southern Slovakia, near the town of Lučenec. He is pursuing a doctorate at FAVU in Brno under the supervision of Katarína Hládeková.

About his practice, he says: “In my artistic work, I focus on how knowledge can be shared through food and various artistic strategies, by creating objects, installations, films, or performances. It is important for me to artistically frame the processes of cultivation – production – distribution – processing of raw materials – cooking, so that I can tell stories that connect personal experience with an understanding of how our bodies are embedded in a world of relationships. These relationships are both interpersonal and more-than-human. The countryside plays a significant role in this practice. I see it as a heterogeneous set of places united by an (agro)cultural landscape, smaller communities, and higher unemployment rates. The countryside is (still) also a place of deep knowledge about seasonal cycles, soil, and food production. It’s a place of frequent interspecies encounters. It’s a place of intense smells and flavors.”

At JAMA 78, Dávid Koronczi will lead one of the Workshops 78, dedicated to working with edible materiality.
