Catherine Lamb – Energetic Arrows

On Sound, Mutuality, Interaction and Periphery

Foto: Phillip Frowein

Workshop for those who are interested (not only) in sound and singing. You don’t even need to be a singer for that.

Composer Catherine Lamb is one of the most distinctive artists of her generation on the contemporary music scene. With her delicate and sonically minimalist approach, she reveals the structurality of sound and penetrates to the limits of human perception. For JAMA 78, she has prepared a workshop in which she will guide the participants from intuitive vocal exercises to the interactions of tones and sounds, which are always influenced by what is happening around them, in their periphery.

Participants need not be singers or have previous experience, just a desire to sing and an affection for the aesthetics of long held notes. If you don’t want to sing, bring a melodic instrument that can hold a note to the workshop. If you’d like a taste before the workshop, Cat sends a link with resources on the topic: here.

The workshop will be conducted in English.

Catherine Lamb (b. 1982) is an internationally active composer and violist exploring the interaction of tones, sums of shapes and shadows, phenomenological expansions, states between outside and inside, empathy, and the form of long exposition. She currently lives in Berlin, where she composes, performs, researches, teaches, and collaborates within the community, including projects she co-founded: Harmonic Space Orchestra, Singing By Numbers, and the music collective Sacred Realism.

Dávid Koronczi – Talking bellies and digestive eyes

Gastro-object imagination workshop

Foto: Dorota Jedináková

The workshop will focus on working with edible materiality. “We will try to use produce, raw materials, flavourings, or baked and cooked dishes as artistic material. We will try to prepare snacks for JAMA 78 on the surface of the table, at the same time we will look at this installation as a story, a speculative scenography or a magical object. We will process the given materials into a tasty and nutritious form, but we will be equally interested in how they look, how they pretend, how they speak to us.”

A passion for cooking and working artistically with materiality is required to participate in the workshop.

Participants will be tasked with bringing at least one ingredient that forms an essential memory from your childhood. Feel free to make it a negative one. A romantic one. Especially a strong one.

The workshop will be held in Slovak language with the possibility to communicate also in English.

Dávid Koronczi (*1990) is a graphic designer, visual artist and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, where he assists Martin Piaček in the management of the Studio vvv at the Department of Intermedia. Dávid’s work is concerned with the intersection of practices of food production and consumption with artistic strategies. In 2021 he initiated the performative gastro-speculative project BRUCHOVRAVY. He has participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, and in July 2024 in the art symposium GASTROFAZA, focusing on food in contemporary art, organized by MeetFactory. Currently, he runs a small family homestead with his partner Martina Szabóová in Ratka in the south of Slovakia, near the town of Lučenec.
