Dominik Hlinka brings a glimpse of science fiction to JAMA 78, set in the rural landscape near Banská Štiavnica.

TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space) – a time machine and also a name well known to fans of a certain cult TV science fiction series, which has run so long that it has almost become a time machine itself.

TARDIS, according to Dominik Hlinka, is a site- and time-specific installation: a found booth that is no longer bigger on the inside than on the outside, a time machine stuck in space. J.V.V. now gathers his tools for liberation inside it, and it will be accessible to visitors of JAMA 78.

Dominik Hlinka is primarily a painter who actively incorporates contemporary technologies into his creative practice, operating in dialogue with the themes of vision, existence, and time. His work shows a long-term interest in an analytical-documentary approach to painted motifs, exploring the question of translating the subject onto the canvas. His contemplation of painting and its essence extends into a broader spectrum of media, including various painting solutions, object creation, site-specific installations, and work in digital environments. Due to the rationalization of the creative process and the aim of achieving an objective result without unnecessary expression, he had a computer-controlled painting machine constructed. Recently, he has been focused on manipulating an (un)necessary amount of both physical objects and digital files, which he collects and (dis)organizes. His self-realization in the village where he now resides has shifted into the fictional character J.V.V. He lives and works in Bratislava and Hontianske Tesáre. He is a member of the interdisciplinary group INSTITUT INSTITUT and works as an assistant professor in the Painting Studio (K. Kosziba) at the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava.
