SUNDAY Oct 13, 10:00 @ Parter BSC

At the very end of JAMA 78, we invite you to the opening of an exhibition by painter Eva Škrovinová, featuring an authorial breakfast snack in the PARTER BSC gallery, organized as a side program by Banská Štiavnica Contemporary.
Eva Škrovinová’s exhibition project Nezavesíš! (You Shall Not Hang!) explores the borderlines of painting, painting approaches, and painting expression, probing their edges and expanding their definitions. A trained painter, Škrovinová turns upside down preconceived notions of how painting should look beyond the defined canvas. She extends her research into a broader social field as a visual artist, highlighting the societal construct of various definitions and binding norms. The exhibition includes stories of people from her immediate surroundings who are dealing with (their own or others’) ideas of how they should behave, look, act, and live.
The author collaborates with curator Miroslava Urbanová for this exhibition. The creation of the presented works was supported by a scholarship from the Arts Support Fund.
Eva Škrovinová studied painting in Stanislav Balko’s studio at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica and later in the Intermedia studio with Václav Stratil at the Faculty of Fine Arts at VUT in Brno, where she obtained her master’s degree. The classic Banská Bystrica approach to painting and the “Stratilian” approach from Brno, which questions everything from authorship to authority, form, and format, have distilled in Škrovinová a belief in the constant undermining of painting as a suspended artwork.
In 2015, the author received the Critics’ Prize for Young Painting in the Czech Republic for works that deconstructed and physically dismantled painting into the form of folding (travel) objects. A year later, she won third place in the NOVUM Foundation Prize. During the pandemic, Škrovinová exhibited very little and became immersed in working on intimate material and technological authorial experiments. In the summer of 2022, she significantly cleared out her small, overcrowded studio, symbolically sorting through and discarding everything that had long awaited processing. This moment of liberation from unfinished works, ideas, and materials leads her to ponder what comes “next.” The author lives and works in Prague.
PARTER BSC was established in 2019, during a year when Banská Štiavnica was fully engaged in activities stemming from its designation as a City of Culture. PARTER BSC emerged from the transformation of unused former school lockers into a semi-public gallery space where exhibitions are held, meetings occur, cooking happens, and artistic creation takes place. Following PARTER BSC, there is the fluid “Flat Sculpture” – a collaborating, (wavy) “playground” by sculptors Jozef Vančo and Sebastián Komáček.
The space was founded by Zuzana Bodnárová and Svätopluk Mikyta from the Banská Štiavnica Contemporary platform, which organizes residency programs, workshops, and creates graphic editions two floors above at the same address. Today, PARTER BSC is living out its last months. After more than six years, its doors will close to the cultural public in spring 2025, as increasing space demands from the primary school sharing the building with BSC take over the space.
