Ján Kralovič works as an assistant professor at the Department of Art Theory and History at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. His research focuses on Slovak neo-avant-garde art, the intersections between visual art, film, and theater, and book culture. In addition to numerous studies and articles, he has published two authored monographs: Territory Street, which explores action art in urban spaces, and Mastery Behind Closed Doors, which examines exhibitions in private and studio spaces during the period of normalization.

At JAMA 78, Ján Kralovič will present the lecture Paper Universe: The Visuality of Sci-Fi Zines as a Manifestation of Amateur Creativity. During the 1980s in Czechoslovakia, numerous amateur sci-fi clubs emerged, many of which (self-)published magazines often featuring original covers, typography, and illustrations in individual issues. In his lecture, which includes both visual and physical examples of Czecho-Slovak sci-fi zines, Ján Kralovič will focus on their visual aspect and highlight some zines, as well as the anonymous or known creators from the Czechoslovak fandom who contributed to their artistic design.
